Tips for a More Comfortable Flight

Posted October 22, 2019

The discomforts of flying can have you dreading a trip by plane, whether it be the cramped seats or the freezing cold cabins. Look on the bright side- there are a few things you can do to make your flight at our Jacksonville NC airport more comfortable. Follow these tips:

Hydrate

You should always hydrate when flying. Passengers often don’t realize how much flying takes out of you until you have landed. Try packing your own water bottle, whether it is one that you purchased in the airport or a refillable bottle from home.

Drink Responsibly

It is recommended to avoid alcohol completely if you want to exit your plane feeling rested and refreshed. On the other hand, some passengers prefer a glass of wine to help them sleep or to accompany their onboard meal. Know your limits or simply keep it to one glass. Overindulging is never a good idea.

Airplane Fashion

With a long flight ahead of you, it is a good idea to wear comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off. Pack thick socks to keep your feet warm if you plan on going shoeless for the duration of the flight. Avoid anything constricting like stiff jeans and always keep a jacket on hand.

Seats

If you are able to pick your seat on the plane, jump at the chance. Think logically: if you have long legs, you’ll probably feel most comfortable in an aisle seat. Maybe you need a window seat to calm your anxieties when flying. Try not to get stuck at the back of the plane by the bathroom area.

Distractions

Long flights can have you feeling antsy when you’re not even halfway to your destination. If you aren’t too fond of sleeping on planes, bring something along that will keep you occupied. Do some work on your laptop or watch a pre-downloaded movie. Read a book or do a crossword puzzle.

Block It Out

If you plan to catch some rest while flying, you won’t regret bringing some earplugs and an eye mask. Noise-canceling headphones are another great option, drowning out cabin and engine noise. A good eye-mask will keep unwanted light out of your eyes when you are trying to sleep.
