Construction and Operation of a New Airport Traffic Control Tower at Albert J. 

Ellis Airport, Jacksonville NC

Onslow County (County) has prepared a Draft Short Form Environmental Assessment (EA) for the proposed construction and operation of an Airport Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) at the Albert J. Ellis Airport in Jacksonville, NC. The Draft Short Form EA was prepared in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations.

The proposed project includes the construction of an ATCT and associated facilities (e.g., parking lot, sidewalk, utility pad, and security fence). The proposed project also includes the connection of utilities and relocation of the Airport’s rotating beacon to the top of the proposed ATCT. The results of the Draft Short Form EA indicate there are no significant adverse impacts associated with the proposed project. The Draft Short Form EA is available for public review at  www.flyoaj.com  and during regular business hours at Albert J. Ellis Airport, 264 Albert Ellis Airport Road, Richlands, North Carolina 28574 and the Onslow County Public Library, 58 Doris Avenue East, Jacksonville, North Carolina 28540.

The County will accept comments on the Draft EA for 30 days from the date of this notice. Include your address, phone number, e-mail address, or other personal identifying information. Be advised that your entire comment- including your personal identifying information-may be made publicly available at any time. While you can ask us in your comment to withhold from public review your personal identifying information, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so.
